Inspiration: 

As a Korean adoptee, one of the ways I began reconnecting with my culture as an adult was through cooking. Through a friend, I learned how to make homemade kimchi, and it became so much more than just fermented Napa cabbage.

Napa cabbage is used across many Asian dishes and cultures, but through kimchi, it became deeply personal to me.

Kimchi became a portal. A way of coming home to myself as a Korean American.

I learned how large, salty batches were made for families, shared in kitchens filled with tradition and care. Years later, after reconnecting with my Korean heritage, that connection deepened. Kimchi, and napa cabbage, became something sacred to me. Familiar. Rooted.

In 2017, I began designing this piece, inspired by that connection.

As an ode to finishing old chapters and honoring where I come from, this design is brought to life in sterling silver and 14k gold—crafted to be worn daily and carried with meaning, a reminder that there is always a seat at the table, no matter where home is.
